This touching article by
of brings tears to my eyes as she describes a brief encounter with nature alongside a stranger while trying to get her creative juices back.I couldn’t agree more with her quote, “… we had talked about how a human’s connection with nature only seems to deepen with age…” I’ve found a special place in my heart for nature and the wild animals in my yard over the past few years, including one very special squirrel, Mrs. Lincoln.
For over a year, she would meet me at my sliding glass door every morning, looking for nuts and eating them out of my hand. (Yes, I know I’m nuts myself.) One day, she was so impatient for me to toss the nuts that she came up and reached them right out of my hand, and that’s how that started.
Had you told me I’d be feeding squirrels in my 50s, I wouldn’t have believed you. I spent a great deal of time trying to chase them off my property because they were eating from the bird feeders, which I enjoyed watching during the pandemic.
Watching the birds brought comfort and peace during a stressful time. However, I realized that I had lost the battle with the squirrels and decided to enjoy them instead. They are really funny animals.
I haven’t seen Mrs. Lincoln in a few months, and it pains me to think about what happened to her. She became a small part of my life, just like the robin in Sophie’s story.
Vibe: A peaceful connection with another human while enjoying nature
I mentioned on Instagram’s Threads the other day that I shockingly noticed that the skin on my calves looked like elephant skin. I received a lot of suggestions on how to combat it, but the one I love the best is from
