Today’s Featured Articles From Our Collective Members
Jennifer Leigh Jamieson of Feels Like Yellow (where grief and gratitude co-exist) and I recently connected about grief (her specialty as a volunteer grief counselor).
I told her I was running a series on Instagram’s Threads called “Hear Me Out Perimenopause,” sharing the upside of perimenopause (which I’m turning into an article later this month).
I mentioned that before accepting aging, one may have to go through grief first. As luck would have it, she was thinking about writing an article on grief and perimenopause based on a recent experience within her friend group. Here it is, hot off the presses!
Vibe: Vulnerable and supportive
Christina Heiser from Celiac Self-Care is a professional writer/editor and writes about her experience with Celiac Disease (an autoimmune condition that causes an immune reaction to eating gluten). Her latest article is about choosing a college when you have Celiac Disease.
Yesterday, I dropped my daughter off at college and ate at her dining hall. My husband and I love fantasizing about having one of these in our house. These are not the dining hall experiences I remember from my college days. I literally could sit here all day, and I could because they are open from 7 a.m. - 9 p.m.
They have a food station called “Station 9,” an allergen-friendly section of the dining hall that serves meals without using the top 9 allergens, including gluten. The staff who work at this station receive additional training on special dietary needs and to reduce the risk of allergen cross-contact.
On the other hand, my son attends a different college, and they handle it completely differently. It puts more responsibility on the student to find acceptable options rather than the school.
There’s a big difference between even these two colleges, so checking your options before accepting a college invitation is a very good idea.
Vibe: Don’t assume

Before I jump into the topic of the week, I wanted to share that the Women’s Health 365 Collective is on Bluesky! I set up the account when I launched this Substack but I haven’t yet posted there.
I didn’t realize until recently that the account was gaining followers even without me posting anything. As of today, there are 143 followers. When I saw the number, I thought they would be spammers, but WOW, I was impressed. Women’s health scientists, women interested in women’s health, physicians, clinicians, men who support women’s health, women’s health entrepreneurs, and health experts are all following the account; it’s truly incredible.
I think it’s time to kick off the Women’s Health 365 Collective social media campaign. I plan on sharing your article links and women’s health information!
📢If you prefer that I don’t share links to your work on Bluesky, please reply to this email ASAP.

In health,
1. A BREAST CANCER DIARY
2. https://abreastcancerdiary.substack.com/
3. My whole publication is about my own, and my podcast guests’ breast cancer stories. I will be sharing personal videos as well as posting excerpts from my written memoirs about my own and my mother’s breast cancer experiences, and reflecting on interviews with my guests. My podcast, which has the same name, is not hosted on substack but can be found on all the pod players. My experience as a nutritionist and a breast cancer patient advocate will be strong elements as well.
Thank you Shelby for sharing my publication! Much appreciated. I value your ideas, your writing and the community you are creating here. 💛
