Hi Shelby -- I wrote a series on burnout. Part of the series covered my experience and part of the series covered what you can do to prevent (or get yourself out of) burnout. Do you have preference towards a first person experience being told or suggestions?
Your call, Jill. Also, you can post the Burnout link here if you want to include the entire section. While I was there, I discovered you had a peri and ADHD interview. I'd like to post a link to it on The Periprofessional's page for this topic (that's my original Substack). Hope that's okay. ~ Shelby
I would LOVE THAT! And let me tag the posts I’m referring to in a certain way to make it easier since they are a sequence. And thanks for checking out Go Long!
3. Dear Menopausal Self (MS) are notes a GenX'er writes to herself about the journey through menopause. Sometimes tough love. Sometimes nurturing insight. Just trying to suck some humor out of this b*tch!
My newsletter is called Shadow & Light because these are both aspects of all of us. Carl Jung, a psychoanalyst who developed the concept of shadow work, claimed that it is a type of psychotherapy that focuses on the part of the psyche that people often hide. So, it’s being honest about the parts of your personality that you don’t like or acknowledge, such as fear, resentment or jealousy. And it’s learning to integrate all parts of yourself.
I will be sharing more about my life-long management of anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), as well as other areas around shadow and light. I will mention things that have helped me along the way, such as books, herbs and supplements, anti-anxiety medications, balancing the gut-microbiome, activating the vagus nerve/parasympathetic nervous system, hypnotherapy, acupuncture, and energy healing. I will also share my experiences with counseling, meditation, yoga, exercise and mindfulness. Last year, I became a SoulCollage® Facilitator and now use this expressive arts practice as one of my tools for self-compassion, self-discovery and coping with my anxiety and OCD.
Description: I am a clinical psychologist in private practice and I primarily work with women with anxiety, OCD, depression, trauma, and postpartum adjustment issues. My writing is sometimes very educational, with the goal of exploring some research or sharing a skill that is relevant to mental wellness. Other times, I write personal essays about my own experiences with anxiety, grief, and familial addiction. Oftentimes, I try to weave the personal and educational together. All my writing is free for now!
I look forward to checking out the other writers that comment!
Hi Shelby! I'm super excited for this first call for mental health articles! I have a few I'd like to put forward (including 1 podcast episode, if that's okay? If not, that's totally fine too!). Here's my submissions following your suggested format . I'm looking forward to reading all the amazing submissions!
Description of the article and anything else you’d like to include:
This is about the overall societal penchant to rush people through grief and to ‘get over it’, because it makes us (individually, and as a society) uncomfortable when dealing with people who are grieving, and this is a reminder to not ‘grief shame’ others and make them feel like something is wrong with them, when things are hard enough as it is.
Description of the article and anything else you’d like to include
This is all about the importance of connection – with ourselves (emotionally/internally), with the outside world, and most importantly, with each other – because we’re all interconnected in ways we might not even realize and it is so important for our mental health (connection with others in particular).
