I am a health writer. I write about my experiences with Chronic Migraine, Stroke, Mental Health Issues and Fibromyalgia. What do I need to do to be included in the Collective?
Hello, my name is Amanda and I have a Substack called 'In my Bones', where I write about my experience of having the autoimmune disease ankylosing spondylitis- a type of inflammatory arthritis of the spine and pelvis (and causes inflammation in many other areas of the body too, like the bowels, heart and lungs).
Ironically, this is one of the autoimmune diseases that old research used to say effected men more, however, it has now been shown that its pretty much equal with women, it's just been underdiagnosed. No surprise there! For me personally, it took me over a decade for my symptoms to be taken seriously (even with my background of nursing).
All my articles relate to health in some way, but my most popular article to date by far has been an article called 'Am I sick because I am woman?' which I have linked below:
I'm a health writer and editor with 15 years of experience covering women's health issues for publications including Everyday Health, Women's Health, PopSugar, Shape, and more. I was diagnosed with celiac disease five years ago and am using my platform as a health writer to help others navigate life with this autoimmune condition. Much of the content in my newsletter is geared toward women, and I often do Q&As with other notable women in the celiac and gluten-free communities.
Shelby, thank you so much for featuring one of my articles here! I'm glad it resonated. As for your other purpose, I have an autoimmune condition (overactive thyroid aka Graves disease) - that I have never written about (maybe I should? 🤔) but I'm looking forward to reading other women's submissions on this topic and how they navigate having an autoimmune condition (which can be challenging at times, especially when it goes unexpectedly out of whack!).
Hi Marguerite! Welcome to the Collective! I apologize for my delayed response; I was on holiday vacation. I really enjoyed reading your article and agree with you (which I had to learn this lesson the hard way). Your attitude will serve you well through life, and I loved how you've already seen benefits (like an easy menopause experience). I'm so glad that you found us! Best, Shelby
