Over a 30+ year span of learning about health, I sometimes feel like I’ve tapped out on all I can learn. It’s in these moments that some new knowledge will appear to me that will make me wonder, “How have I never learned about this yet?”
The philosophy of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), which extends far beyond the realm of acupuncture, offers profound insights into our health and wellness. TCM is rooted in ancient practices and deeply intertwined with China's cultural heritage. These medical practices and beliefs were passed down through generations for centuries and provide invaluable perspectives that differ from Western medicine.
One such example is their view on menopause, which is not seen as a disease, but rather as a natural transition to a new phase of life, marked by change and growth.
, a Chinese medicine practitioner, educates us on her Substack, Heart of Menopause, about how TCM intertwines with menopause and what supportive measures, from a Chinese perspective, can help.I imagine that an Eastern philosophy will elevate menopause as poetic, rather than burdensome, and I look forward to learning more about this from her.
Vibe: New attitude
Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD) is often described as a severe form of premenstrual syndrome (PMS), but I think it’s in a class by itself. Unlike typical PMS, which may involve mild mood swings and discomfort, PMDD is characterized by intense psychological pain, such as severe depression, anxiety, irritability, and mood swings that can disrupt daily life.
You may not have PMDD, but learning about it can provide insightful tips and an understanding that can help us manage our own menstrual symptoms.
